Flying on my own for the first time?
I'm taking a trip in April on my own for the first time. I'm extremely nervous. I have to switch planes at DCA (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, VA). I'm flying with US Airways. However, when I booked my flight, it says that different flights are operated by US Airways, US Airways Express, etc. Are there different gates/counters to go to for that? My flights are US AIrways Express. Can I just go to any US Airways counter? When I get off the plane at DCA, where do I go to wait to get on my connecting flight? Do I have to pass through security again? Also, my luggage will be taken to my next plane, right? How early should I be at the airport before my flight?

Be at the airport two hours early, and yes you can go to any US Airways counter. When you get off the first flight, there will be signs overhead leading you to Connecting Flights. You should have the number of your flight on the receipt you recieved when you bought your tickets. When you go to the airport, they should give you the tickets to both flights, or they'll have it at DCA. Honestly, just call US Airways and they'll know EXACTLY. I'm not 100% sure because each airport varies sometimes. I am positive, though, that you'll be fine :)

Get to the airport at least one full hour early. You can go to any US Airways counter to start with. Once you have your tickets and itinerary it should list the gates and departure times of any connecting flights. Once you are at DCA, you will not need to go through security again unless you voluntarily leave the secured area. The only reason you would do such a thing is if you are a smoker, if you want to have a smoke you will likely need to go out of the secured area at DCA and go through security (again) to get back in. Of course, I am not familiar with DCA and they could be one of the rare airports that has a smoking area (within) the secured area. You can wait at DCA wherever you like, you might just want to sit next to the gate of your connecting flight, but most major airports have all sorts of retail shops and food spots for you to roam around and pass the time at. All checked luggage will me moved between connecting flights for you. NOTE: do NOT lock your luggage - new regulations require that your checked luggage is left unlocked - and the signs are not posted very well. I learned this the hard way as my antique leather luggage had the locks smashed off and a "sorry" note left inside. If you lock your checked bags and they get randomly selected for inspection - they will destroy them and you have no recourse.
