What are the best and worst cities in the U.S. to live in?
I currently live in DC. I go to college in Arlington, VA. This is ok, it's coming up and it's looking beautiful now. It so hard to buy a house here though. I would rather live in New York City, because it's a faster city and I'm in the Fashion industry. I would never ever ever ever ever ever, live in the city of Detroit. I apologize in advance for anyone who lives there or has lived their. But I find Detroit a very depressing and sad city. I visited some family there twice and I hated it. Detroit has a lot abandoned houses and impoverished areas. It's breaks my heart to see that there are some many people suffering here. The city is slowly becoming a ghost town. I would never live in the state of Michigan, I've encountered so much Racism/segregation here. I've visited the suburbs of Detroit and 92% of the residents are White, while in the inner-city 84% of the residents are Black. It because of the whole "White Flight" thing in the 1960s. The Whites wanted to move far away from the Blacks. In these mostly White suburbs, I've gotten some weird stares and some racist remarks. I was so shocked. Detroit used to beautiful according to my grandma, it has so much potential to be a great city. But it looks like it's never gonna comeback because people are living the area in droves. I really want to help the people in the city, but I'm so afraid of going back. The people there didn't even smile, they looked at me like I was crazy because I looked "too happy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8dz40AOOmA&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUWVVclOTik&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snsyzaojS78&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nga2_XK3kmE&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHr2mLQZUtU&feature=channel_page Scott-It has nothing to do with Blacks, I've been to areas in Michigan and they were all white and they were just as bad as Detriot was. Special K-Richmond Va? Why is it bad? Why do people keep saying DC? It's growing better each day, the only thing that sucks for sure is the public schools. MJ-Atlanta is getting better too, I love Chicago. But my heart belongs to NYC Special K- Did you go to VCU? That's a really good school, my friends said that there is a lot of crime there. Ogun-Thanks, NYC and DC are my type of cities they have lots of diversity and cultural things to do. Not to mention, I love the DC suburbs are some of the wealthiest and most diverse in the nation.

Detroit is probably the worst city ever. San Diego has very few minority men (black). Yes, born and raised there.

IM from MAryland and its really nice here, lots of diversity, beautiful places and lots of oportunities (except for BAltimore where the mayority is black and its a very scary place) now if you go to places like detroit or new orleans where there are lots of Black people, its actually scarry and really bad areas Keisha.... are you really from San Diego??? I had the chance to go there last year and yes, i was surprised that there are almost no blacks there, really nice place btw MAybe those areas are bad to you cause people treat you bad there, but they arent bad areas for others. Besides those areas dont have high crime rates and things like that like detroit and other places

Worst DC NYC DETROIT RICHMOND VA Philly crime rate is high I went to college in Richmond, VA and that is the worst city ever. There are no opportunities out there in terms of starting a career. I've seen so many adults with jobs that teenagers should have, such as Wendy's McDonald's, burger king, local supermarkets etc. I don't think its a bad thing that they work there and that's the life choice they made but, I believe it has to do with the opportunities that they have at reach. The crime rate is high, there are so many unsolved murders, drug dealers and even prostitutes(I've seen them around my school area). Granted this stuff happens everywhere, but I was in this particular city and realized it. It is not a good place to raise children, if easily influenced they could get in a lot of trouble in Richmond Its funny I'm from NYC, but I would love to live in DC. No VCU is a good school though. I know a couple of people who went there. Its not really in a bad area and they have good security/ cops that patrol the area.

I grew up in Baltimore and I've lived in NYC for the past 12 years. If I had to name my favorite U.S. cities, they would be: 1. Seattle 2. Miami 3. New York 4. San Francisco 5. Baltimore 6. Tampa 7. L.A. 8. D.C. 9. Atlanta 10. New Orleans San Diego is too bland, superficial, and materialistic. Everything seems to be man-made there, even the trees. Orlando is another city that's only good for vacations. If you want to work in fashion, I definitely recommend NYC and LA; but these are also two of the most expensive cities.

I live in Atlanta, contary to what people say, its not 'run' by blacks, black people are just the majority in most places here, and there are plenty of white people and latinos. As a multiracial, I fit in well, where I live in a suburb/urban area, there is a great mixture of whites, blacks and mixed race people, not a lot of asians though. If you go into main Atlanta, it just gets very busy. Theres crime in every city, and their are run down parts in Atlanta, probably more then most but we're getting better so say in Bankhead/College Park/Vine city but my nan lives near there and she's fine, every city has its rough spots. Overall, Atlanta's great. Besides from that, I agree with you, and no offence to people who live in Detroit but it is pretty run down, from what I've heard and seen. But I would really recommend a South/North Eastern city like Pheonix or Portland which are accepting and have everything most North Eastern, Boston, NYC and DC are culturally diverse and some South Cities, like Houston or Atlanta. People who are saying ATL is worst, I said all cities have bad areas, and have any of you been to Atlanta?

DC is one of the places I will be going to this summer, I'm excited; I want to see all the memorial places! And I was in Detroit only for about 5 hours from a flight delay, but I found it nice. People there seemed nice, well at least at the mall and restaurant I went too, so I can't say I had a bad experience. But I know what you mean people tend to be rude. I have also been to New York many times because I have many relatives there. Don't get me wrong it's good to vist but I wouldn't live there. Way to overpopulated, really expensive, over there you rent a studio apartment their for like 2,000 a month! It's insane for that price here in Arizona you pay 1,200 and you can have a huge brand new home with a pool and etc. Also the city is a dirty place, polluted and trash all over. Anyways, I reside in Arizona, I love it here, in most places it's more middle class suburb. My only complaint is the summer it can get as hot as 115-120 degrees. But it's really beautiful. My best list: Niagara Falls,New York Nashville,Tennessee Evansville,Indiana Tombstone,Arizona Worst: New York City,New York Los Angles,California San Antonio,Texas

Best: Houston or Austin Texas. Very diverse and so much to do. Worst: Any small city in Texas, full of racist red necks! Examples: Dayton, Vitur, Mount Belview.

I'm not trying to offend anyone but Detroit is pretty bad. The city is just extremely gentrified and run down. Also the winters are brutal. Many people that I know from Detroit and sick of the brutal winters. Most of the cities in the region know affectionately as the "Rust Belt" make the polls of worst cities. As far as best cities it really depends on what you like. Florida and California have the best weather but with slumping economies and high cost of living residency has become miserable despite the weather. Denver and Salt lake City are clean scenic cities if you love the outdoors and snow. Dallas and Houston offer great cost of living but succumb to the problems associated with larger populations. New York and DC are excellent cities for culture and diversity but the cost of living is outrageous. The southern and southeastern states now offer best of all worlds. With reasonable cost of living, just enough culture, bearable winters and ideal location for travel cities in these states are very appealing.

In my opinion LA is the worst city to live in.The air stinks. Its always way too hot. Its hella superficial and fake. And everybody looks the same. The best city is San Francisco. It has so much swag. I can go on for hours about how wonderful it is. Its hella diverse. Great people, Museums, shopping, plays, music. Its great.
