I need help with T line Boston?
I'm flying from California to Boston on Wednesday. I'm staying at the Boston Plaza Hotel at 50 Park Plaza/Arlington street. Can someone tell me the best way to get to the hotel without a $50.00 cab fare please? The flight gets in after 8pm. I also need to get from 50 Park Plaza to 1680 Beacon Street, Brookline. Again, I'm beiing told $40.00 for 2.8 miles. The closest T stop is Tappan Street. Thanks very much for any help. I'd hate to shell out a fortune on cab fares when everything is pretty close.

Very easy to do this by the T. From Logan, take the Silver Line from your terminal to South Station. Change to the Red Line Inbound (Alewife) at South Station. Take the Red Line to Park Street (only 2 stops). Change to the Green Line, any car. Get off at Arlington (2 stops). Your hotel is on Arlington, only a block or two. To get to your destination in Brookline, get on the Green Line "C" Branch Outbound (Cleveland Circle) at Arlington. Tappan is many stops out, mostly above ground. You'll have to ring the buzzer to ensure the trolley stops at Tappan. Give yourself an hour for hotel to destination. While you are here, make sure you wander around the Public Garden. It's only a block from your hotel, and it's in bloom. Also walk up Comm Ave a bit -- the magnolias are magnificent. HANK: Tappan is the third from the end of the C line, 5 after Coolidge Corner. I've been sending people on the Silver/Red/Green routes since they've been doing construction on the Blue Line with random busing.

It's the Park Plaza hotel, not the Plaza. It is one short block's walk from Arlington Station of the subway's Green Line. At your airport terminal take the free shuttle bus to the Subway. The bus will be marked either 'Subway' or 'Subway Airport Station." In any case Airport Station is on the Blue Line. When you arrive purchase a Charlie Card (the transit system's fare card) for at least 4 subway trips - $ 6.80. Take the Blue Line inbound 4 stops to Government Center. Switch there to the Green Line (which is the light rail subway). Take any Green Line train, direction Park Street/Heath/Cleveland Circle/Boston College. 3 stops and you will be at Arlington. Penny Lee's suggestion of the Silver Line/Red Line alternative is in my judgement not quite as easy. But as she writes to get to 1680 Beacon Street from Arlington Station you are fortunate that it is also located on the Green Line 'C' branch - Cleveland Circle. Tappan Street is not "many stops out" but is I think just the 3rd above ground; it is the stop before Coolidge Corner (where there is a big Trader Joe's store there if you are homesick. The Wednesday weather is also expected to be Californian - record warmth in the low 80s). Certainly if you want to allow an hour as she suggests to be absolutely sure you get there in time in case there is a breakdown you may but the normal time from Arlinton Station to Tappan Street is about 20 minutes.
