Best Way to Get from Crystal City to Dulles?
I'm looking at booking a room at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington. I'm also looking at flying into Dulles as opposed to Reagan, since flights into Dulles are $100 cheaper on the dates I need. I just called the Marriott, and unfortunately, there is no shuttle to Dulles from their hotel; the concierge suggested I take a taxi, which, I think, would be outrageously expensive (45-50 minutes, he told me). Anyone know of a better way to get from the Crystal Gateway Marriott to Dulles? Of so, can you please be detailed in your response (i.e., don't just say "Metro")?

Public transportation (Metro rail and bus), although inexpensive, will take over an hour between Dulles and Crystal City. Take a BLUE line train from Crystal City towards the Rosslyn station, transfer to a Metro #5A bus at the Dulles Airport Bus Stop, Curb 2E. Roundtrip between Dulles and Crystal City would cost approximately $100 with Washington Flyer taxis (door to door) or $50 with Super Shuttle (but rides takes longer as you share the van with other passengers).

A cab will be quite expensive. The cheapest way is public transportation. At Dulles Airport, get on the 5A Metrobus. This is an Express bus - it only runs between the airport and Rosslyn Metro Station, so you don't have to worry about missing your stop. Bus fare is $3.10, and you need to take exact change because the bus driver cannot make change for you. At Rosslyn Metro, you will go down the escalators to the lowest train track (there are 2, an upper level and a lower level). You will get on the Blue Line train going toward Franconia-Springfield and get off at Crystal City - five stops, about ten minutes tops. DON'T get on the Orange Line train that comes along the same track - it will say "Vienna" on the side. Only the Blue Line will take you from Rosslyn to Crystal City. Metro fare is more expensive during rush hour, so your fare will vary. But there are farecard machines that take credit cards, so you don't have to have exact change to get your Metro farecard. You can plan your trip and see the exact cost and itinerary on the Metro website: http://wmata.com/ Alternately, you can ask at the airport about paid shuttle services (like Super Shuttle) - I think they are about $15-20? I've never done that, so I'm honestly not sure.
